Love is the force that ignites the spirit and binds teams together.
There’s a business side of the game where you are paid to play, perform and produce. That is business, not football.
Football is a calling. A scripture passage from Isaiah 6:8 says, “I heard a voice saying, whom shall I send? Who will go for us?”
How does that relate? That call is for everyone, not just a select few. The opponent is being called just as we are. Some do not hear the call. Others will not heed it. Still others respond, then turn back.
Scripture also says many are called but few are chosen because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way that leads to life. You have another opportunity to demonstrate you have chosen to continue. There is something within each of us that determines whether we are going to hear the call. Whether I hear the call and how I respond is based on one thing: Love.
Love is the force that ignites the spirit and binds teams together. When the voice asks “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” Here I am! Send ME! “For there is no greater love than to lie down one’s life for a friend.”
Love is the catalyst of this small brotherhood where the ties that bind are confidence, mutual respect, shared hazard, shared fear, and shared triumph. A willingness to obey and a determination to lead. The call is for everyone not just a select few. “Whom Shall I send? Who will go for us?” Here I am, send me. You are one but not alone, where we go, we go together.
